Spreading out over 78.2 square miles, Oakland is a large metropolitan urban city. It has over 50 distinct neighborhoods, many without official names on the map. Oakland began as a much smaller city. Many of the neighborhoods were once towns or villages to themselves. After their
annexation into Oakland many retained a sense of unique charm and individuality. There are many different neighborhoods that appeal to different people. Although Oakland has a history of high crime rates, it is mostly concentrated in particular areas that I don't recommend to buyers. There are many very charming, inviting, and fun places to live in this city that has so much to offer and is a hop, skip, and a jump into San Francisco.
